After a successful 40 year architectural practice with a variety of work including casinos, office buildings, retail buildings, multi-family projects, tropical resort design, condominiums and residences in locations throughout the United States and in Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Bahamas and some Caribbean islands, I have begun the serious business of Art.
My work is designed to provoke thought by the viewer. Sometimes, the images are purely for contemplation and observation. The viewer may see designs and pictures that are not pre-determined by me but simply there by recognition on the part of the viewer.
I have been fascinated by the works of particular artists whom I admire and who use bold and brash color combinations as well as those artists who use very broad strokes with simple graphics qualities in their art.
I believe that the subject matter of the painting is most important. Therefore, my backgrounds are simple, more graphics oriented in their simplicity. I also wish to stretch the boundaries of an object such that it does not simply create a duplicate of the image, but evokes an abstraction of it without destroying the subject.
I use primarily acrylic paint on canvas and masonite. Sometimes wood oil stain and tempera are incorporated for effect. My small work often consists of ink on paper with acrylic accents and various found objects.
